Door Handles

The range of bronze door Handles from the Harjes workshops, a third generation family business, has been expanded over the decades. In sympathy with the early designs of the Art Nouveau era, the new additions have remained loyal to the original. Their functional design allows them to compete with their modern counterparts in all respects.
Unlike earlier handles produced from brass, these handles are made from bell-bronze and polished until they attain a sleek, smooth surface. Hand-crafted door handles for inside and outside use, are a rarity in Europe.

The style of the Harjes door handles date back to the original founder of the Harjes company, Fidi Harjes. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Fidi was a member of the Worpswede artist colony, along with Heinrich Vogeler. For those astute observers who have visited the town hall in Bremen, a UNESCO world heritage site, the similarity between the Harjes door handles and those of the Golden Chamber will be immediately obvious. Heinrich Vogeler was the creator and designer of the Golden Chamber.
